Prompt
Tell me about a time you disagreed with a teammate on a technical decision.
How this round runs
I will pick one story and drill into it — the specifics, your exact role, and what you would do differently. Vague or rehearsed answers fall apart here.
Model answer
Pick a real disagreement with a concrete technical core and a result you can quantify. Lead with one sentence of situation, then spend your time on what you personally did.
A strong answer keeps ownership in the first person ("I proposed…", "I decided to…"), shows you understood the other side before arguing, names the data that settled it, and ends with what shipped, how you monitored it, and what you changed about how you handle disagreement now.
Signals — what a strong answer shows
- Concrete specifics — who disagreed, the exact technical point, real numbers
- Used 'I' for the decisions and actions you personally owned
- Showed you understood their view before advocating yours
- Closed with the result AND the learning (what you do differently now)
Follow-ups — where it goes next
- Who specifically disagreed, and what exactly was their objection?
- What did you actually say to them — walk me through the conversation
- What would you have done if they still had not agreed?
- What do you do differently now because of this?
