I will pick one story and drill into it — who you pushed back on, what you'd have done if they said no anyway, and how the relationship held up. Pushing back on a peer over something trivial isn't the same as pushing back up with real stakes.
Model answer
Pick a requirement you pushed back on with real stakes — ideally up the chain or across to product, not a peer over something minor. Lead with the requirement and your concern in one sentence, then spend your time on the case you built and how you delivered it without burning the relationship.
A strong answer is first-person about the advocacy ("I pulled the usage numbers…", "I proposed shipping the 20% first…"), backs the concern with data rather than opinion, names who you pushed back on, and is honest that you'd have committed gracefully if overruled — and ends with how you kept the relationship intact.
